The Juniper Networks MX5 is the entry-level model of the MX series, in a 2U form factor, with a switching capacity of 20 Gbps. It offers 4 x XFP ports for 10 Gigabit optical connections, 1 x console port, 1 x auxiliary port, 1 x management Ethernet port, 1 x USB port, and 2 x RJ-45 synchronization ports. It runs JUNOS with 512 MB of RAM, a 100 GB SSD, and 1 GB of flash.
The MX5 is the entry point to the Juniper MX platform, designed for small carriers or access sites requiring only 20 Gbps of capacity with XFP interfaces. With a single available MIC slot, it offers limited but sufficient scalability for small-scale deployments that need the advanced feature set of JUNOS.
