10G SFP+ SR: multi-vendor references and fiber selection
What is 10GBASE-SR used for?
10GBASE-SR is designed for short 10 Gigabit Ethernet links over multimode fiber. It normally uses an LC duplex connection and transmission around 850 nm. Typical applications include racks, equipment rooms and in-building links within the published fiber limits.
Reach depends on the installed fiber
SR is not a single-distance designation. Cisco documents 26 m on legacy FDDI-grade fiber, 33 m on OM1, 82 m on OM2, 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4 for SFP-10G-SR. Meraki also publishes separate reach values by fiber grade for MA-SFP-10GB-SR.
