The role of 10GBASE-LR
10GBASE-LR supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber, commonly between buildings, equipment rooms or points of presence. Typical LR optics use 1310 nm, LC duplex connectors and a nominal reach up to 10 km.

The optical budget remains decisive
The 10 km figure is a nominal limit, not a guarantee for every installed path. Splices, patch panels, connectors and fiber loss consume margin. Received power must remain between the minimum sensitivity and the maximum input specified for the optic.
