The Cisco SFP-OC48-IR1 is a 2.488 Gbps SFP transceiver compliant with OC-48/STM-16, for single-mode fiber (SMF) with an LC (PC or UPC) connector. Its 15 km reach under the IR1 classification distinguishes it from the LR2 variant (40 km) of the same family: it covers intermediate distances suited to intra-metropolitan links or connections between closely located sites requiring STM-16 SONET capacity.

This module integrates into Cisco routers and multiplexers for OC-48 deployments at reduced reach, providing an optimized optical budget for urban or inter-building links.
