The Extreme Networks MGBIC-BX10-U is a bidirectional (BiDi) 1 Gbps 1000BASE-BX SFP transceiver over single-mode fiber (SMF) with a simplex LC connector, for a reach of 10 km. The U identifier (Upstream) positions it as the upstream transmitter in the BiDi pair; it must be paired with the MGBIC-BX10-D at the remote end to carry a full Gigabit link over a single fiber strand.

This module is suited to short- and medium-reach Gigabit BiDi links within a campus or between adjacent buildings over single-strand SMF infrastructure.
