The FN-TRAN-QSFP+SR-BIDI is a Fortinet short-reach bidirectional QSFP+ transceiver, compliant with the 40GBASE-SR-BiDi standard. It carries 40 Gbps over multimode fiber up to 150 m via a single LC duplex connector on one fiber strand, differentiating the two transmission directions by separate wavelengths — unlike the FN-TRAN-QSFP+SR, which requires an 8-fiber MPO connector for its 4 parallel channels.
This BiDi module is the preferred solution for networks that already have a duplex MMF cable infrastructure and want to migrate to 40 Gbps without replacing their LC optical panels.
