QSFP-100G-SR4: Data Sheet

·2 min read·358 words

The QSFP-100G-SR4-S is Cisco's standard multimode QSFP28 100G module for data center spine-leaf architectures and Nexus 9300/9500 and UCS interconnections. It supports distances of 70m over OM3 and 100m over OM4. It uses 4 parallel 25G lanes over MPO-12 fiber. Complete data sheet.

Specifications

  • Data rate: 100 Gbps (100GBASE-SR4)
  • 4 lanes × 25 Gbps
  • Fiber: multimode OM3 (70m) / OM4 (100m) / OM5 (100m)
  • Connector: MPO-12 (or compatible MTP-12)
  • Wavelength: 850 nm
  • Power consumption: 3.5W max
  • DOM: supported (per-lane monitoring)

Compatibility

  • Nexus 9300-EX/FX/GX (QSFP28 ports)
  • Nexus 9500 with 100G modules
  • Catalyst 9500 with 100G uplink modules
  • UCS 6400 Fabric Interconnects
  • Nexus 9300 spine switches in an ACI fabric or standalone deployment

Pricing

  • Brand-new, genuine Cisco QSFP-100G-SR4-S: €1,190 excluding VAT
  • Refurbished Cisco QSFP-100G-SR4: €590 excluding VAT
  • 100% compatible OPTINOC alternative: €295 excluding VAT (75% savings)

100G alternatives by requirement

  • QSFP-100G-LR4-S: single-mode 10 km (4×25G WDM) — €3,890 excluding VAT
  • QSFP-100G-DR-S: single-mode 500m (single lane 100G PAM4) — €2,490 excluding VAT
  • QSFP-100G-FR-S: single-mode 2 km — €2,890 excluding VAT
  • QSFP-100G-AOC1M to AOC30M: integrated active optical cable — €450-890 excluding VAT
  • QSFP-100G-CU1M to CU5M: passive copper DAC cable — €295-890 excluding VAT

Breakout: 1× QSFP28 to 4× SFP28

The QSFP-100G-SR4 supports 4×25G breakout operation:

  • MPO to 4× LC duplex breakout cable (or 4× SFP28-SR)
  • Each 25G lane operates independently through an NX-OS virtual port
  • Configuration: interface breakout module 1 port 1 map 10g-4x
  • Ideal for aggregating 4× 25G servers through 1 QSFP28 switch port

MPO/MTP cables and connectivity

  • MPO-12 trunk 3m: €145 excluding VAT
  • MPO-12 trunk 5m: €195 excluding VAT
  • MPO-12 trunk 10m: €290 excluding VAT
  • MPO to 4× LC breakout: €290 excluding VAT (for 25G SFP28 interoperability)
  • Polarity: Type A/B/C depending on topology (confirm with the provider)

DAC vs AOC vs optical: when to choose each option

  • Copper DAC <5m: lower cost, low power consumption, and minimal latency
  • AOC 5-30m: no separate connectors, plug-and-play, and prevents compatibility mismatches
  • SR4 optical: maximum flexibility with existing fiber; requires an MPO patch cord
